ENCOURAGING INDEPENDENCE

“I Can Do It Myself.”

Toddlers naturally want to participate in everything around them.

Our educators embrace this desire by giving children meaningful opportunities to take part in everyday routines and age-appropriate responsibilities.

Children may be encouraged to:

Put away their belongings
Choose between activities
Help prepare for mealtimes
Wash and dry their hands
Carry and organise materials
Help clean their workspace
Practise putting on or removing simple clothing
Participate in simple classroom routines

These small experiences help children develop confidence, coordination, concentration and responsibility.

LEARNING THROUGH DOING

Hands-On Experiences for Growing Minds

Toddlers learn best when they can actively participate.

Our classroom experiences encourage children to touch, move, build, sort, pour, carry, create and experiment. Through hands-on learning, children begin to develop:

Fine and gross motor skills
Hand-eye coordination
Early problem-solving abilities
Concentration
Memory
Language
Spatial awareness
Confidence

We give children the opportunity to experience learning — not simply be shown what to do.

SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Learning About Myself and Others

Toddlers are beginning to understand emotions, relationships and social boundaries. Our educators help children navigate these experiences with patience and understanding.

Children are supported as they learn to:

Recognise and express emotions
Communicate their needs
Develop friendships
Practise taking turns
Begin sharing and cooperating
Respect personal space
Show kindness and empathy
Solve simple social challenges

We help children learn that their feelings matter — and so do the feelings of others.

A PREPARED ENVIRONMENT

Room to Move. Space to Discover.

Our toddler environments are intentionally organised to encourage exploration and independence. Materials are accessible and arranged in an inviting way so children can make choices, return to familiar activities and gradually learn how to care for their environment.

Practical Life

Pouring, transferring, cleaning, dressing and everyday tasks.

Sensorial Exploration

Discovering differences in texture, shape, sound, size and colour.

Early Mathematics

Counting, matching, sorting, patterns and simple quantities.

Language

Books, sounds, vocabulary, songs and conversation.

Creative Expression

Art, music, movement and open-ended exploration.

CURIOUS MINDS AT WORK

Questions Lead to Discovery

Toddlers are natural explorers. A simple question such as “What happens if I put this here?” can become an opportunity to experiment, observe and problem-solve.

Our educators follow children's interests and introduce experiences that encourage them to investigate their surroundings.

We don’t rush to give every answer. We give children time to discover.

MOVEMENT & OUTDOOR EXPLORATION

Growing Strong Through Movement

Toddlers need opportunities to move, climb, carry, balance and explore. Our daily experiences support physical development through age-appropriate movement and outdoor exploration.

Balance
Coordination
Strength
Body awareness
Fine and gross motor skills
Confidence in physical movement

Outdoor experiences also provide opportunities to observe nature, explore seasonal changes and discover the world beyond the classroom.

OUR EDUCATORS

Supporting the Child Behind Every Milestone

Our educators understand that toddlers are learning constantly — even when it may not look like traditional learning.

They observe, encourage and provide just enough support to help children take their next step. We give children opportunities to try before helping, practise before perfecting and discover before being told.

PARTNERSHIP WITH FAMILIES

Growing Together Through the Toddler Years

The transition from baby to toddler brings many changes. We work closely with families as children develop new routines, skills, interests and independence. Through ongoing communication, we share observations, celebrate milestones and work together to create consistency between home and Happy Hearts.

Open communication
Respectful relationships
Sharing observations and milestones
Consistent routines
Listening to family perspectives
Celebrating every stage of development
